Maluso River

Maluso, Basilan

Also known as Subah Maluso

Overview

The river of Maluso on south-western Basilan, noted as a source of fresh water for sailors in an 1843 sailing directory.

Maluso lies on the south-western side of Basilan and is known for its beaches, rivers and wide mangroves. Its river, locally called Subah Maluso, is tied to the town's beginnings and was noted as a source of fresh water by European sailors; it appears in James Horsburgh's India Directory of 1843.

In July 2022 the town launched Marayaw Maluso, a programme to make it a peace and eco-tourism hub. A list of the region's waterfalls places Garlayan Falls and Mahayahay Falls in Maluso.
