Cojangan

Hadji Muhtamad, Basilan

Overview

A calm, lagoon-like stretch of sea among the islets of Hadji Muhtamad, west of Basilan Island.

Hadji Muhtamad is a young municipality made up of the Pilas Islands and other islets west of Basilan Island. Cojangan, in Barangay Palahangan, takes its name from the Sinama word lowang, a hole: it has a hole in the middle that looks like a lagoon. The ministry praises the freshness of its sea water and the calm.

A photo of Cojangan took the Basilan first prize in the 2021 regional photo contest of the Ministry of Trade, Investments and Tourism.
